This revised 4-day itinerary offers a flexible Day 1, allowing you to choose between exploring either Jabal Al Akhdar or Jabal Shams, two of Oman’s most spectacular mountain ranges.
Day 1: Muscat to Nizwa & Mountain Exploration (Choose Your Option)
- Pick-up: Your private 4×4 guide will collect you from your hotel or designated location in Muscat at 8:30 AM.
- Birkat Al Mouz: Your first stop is the ancient village of Birkat Al Mouz. You will explore the old ruins and the UNESCO-listed falaj irrigation system that feeds the date palm plantations.
Option 1: Explore Jabal Al Akhdar
After Birkat Al Mouz, begin the scenic ascent up Jabal Al Akhdar, also known as the “Green Mountain.” You will visit Wadi Bani Habib to take a short walk along the terraced villages and farms, followed by a panoramic view from Diana’s Viewpoint. The tour then concludes with your drop-off at your hotel in Nizwa for your overnight stay.
Option 2: Explore Jabal Shams
After Birkat Al Mouz, the tour continues to Jabal Shams, Oman’s highest peak. You will drive through the magnificent Wadi Ghul, known as the “Grand Canyon of Oman,” and reach the summit for breathtaking views of the massive gorge. The tour then concludes with your drop-off at your hotel in Nizwa for your overnight stay.

Day 2: Culture & Desert
- Nizwa: Explore the historic Nizwa Fort and the traditional Nizwa Souq. If it’s a Friday, you’ll have the unique opportunity to experience the lively Nizwa Cattle Market.
- Ibra Town & Wahiba Sands: Make a short stop in Ibra Town before heading into the Wahiba Sands desert.
- Desert Adventure: Enjoy a thrilling 30km dune drive, watch a spectacular sunset from the highest dunes, and have dinner under the stars at The One Camp.
- Overnight Accommodation: The One Camp.
Day 3: Coastal & Turtles
- Wahiba Sands to Wadi Bani Khalid: Watch the desert sunrise. An optional dune-bashing excursion is available after breakfast. Travel to Wadi Bani Khalid for a refreshing swim in its clear pools.
- Coastal Road & Ras Al Jinz: Drive along the scenic coastal road, passing traditional fishing villages. After lunch and checking into Turtle Beach Resort, you’ll journey to Ras Al Jinz to witness green sea turtles nesting.
- Overnight Accommodation: Turtle Beach Resort.
Day 4: Wadis & Return
- Sur: Explore the coastal town, visiting the traditional dhow-building yards and the bustling fish market.
- Wadi Exploration: Hike and swim in the breathtaking Wadi Tiwi and Wadi Shab.
- Bimmah Sinkhole: Make a final stop for a refreshing swim before returning to Muscat.
- Return: Conclude the tour with a transfer back to your hotel in Muscat.
